Beal’s Pickles and Pints

Beal's Pickles and PintsOn a recent Saturday night I was searching for something just a little different among our local eateries.  I happened onto a menu that listed “pickle salsa”.  I knew I had to visit Beal’s Pickles N Pints!

My husband and I arrived about 6 pm on a Saturday night.  The minute we walked in the door we were impressed with the friendly, local pub vibe.  We had to ask our server to allow us a few minutes to peruse the extensive drinks menu.  My husband ordered Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA, brewed locally in North Olmstead, Ohio.  He reported that it had a crisp, hoppy taste.  I had the Angry Orchard Apple Crisp Hard Cider.  It was a perfect fall drink, refreshing cider with a kick, bottled in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Our server said they would pair well with the pickle salsa – he was right.

The pickle salsa was a colorful mix of tomatoes, dill pickles, and onions.  The generous serving came with warm pita bread sprinkled with parmesan cheese.  The salsa was crunchy, sweet and sour.  You could make a meal out of just the appetizers.   The Beal family makes their own pickles – you can get them fried, choose the garlic dill or hot with habanero’s, accompanied by cucumber dipping sauce.  Can’t decide?  Order the pickle sampler!

Every offering on the rest of the menu sounded great – burgers, wraps, salads.  We decided it was a burger night.  My husband got the Shroomer, a perfectly cooked burger covered with mushrooms sautéed in a burgundy wine sauce topped with Swiss cheese. I ordered the Big Western, another perfect burger topped with onion rings, barbecue sauce and cheddar cheese.  Sandwiches come with a side of crispy tater tots.  I ordered the slaw instead.  Dried cranberries were mixed with fresh slaw and a sweet slaw dressing, a variation I will be adding to my own slaw recipe.  Sandwiches are also accompanied by, you guessed it, a pickle!  Other sides are French fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, soup and salad.  Beal’s offers daily specials and a “Meal Deal” where you can put together your own combo.  We both want to return and have the Pickle Burger, topped with their pickle salsa and American cheese.

Beal’s is located in Willo Plaza on Euclid Avenue in Willoughby.   The pub features a beautiful bar, tables and booths.  Multiple televisions can be seen from every table.   In the dining room there was the biggest TV I have ever seen, 160”, and I saw my first “beer tower!”  You’ve got to check it out.  It’s a great place to meet up with friends, watch a game, catch a quick lunch or linger over dinner.
