Great Lakes Mall promotes Literacy

Harold and the Purple Crayon

Harold and the Purple Crayon

What was your favorite book as a child?

The Simon Kidgits Club at Great Lakes Mall, sponsored by Cleveland Clinic’s Hillcrest Hospital and Willoughby Hills Family Health Center, is promoting the joys of reading among area children and their parents during the 2013 Kidgits Book Blast! this Saturday from 11-1pm near Justice in the mall.

According to Renee Lazara, the director of mall marketing, “Book Blast! is designed to enhance a child’s desire to read and exercise their imaginations through colorful storytelling.  This is a fun and educational event for families to attend together.”

Stories will come to life as special guests read books that highlight their profession. Simon Kidgits Book Blast! will feature readings and special guest appearances by:

– City of Mentor Police Chief Kevin Knight

– City of Mentor Firefighter Nathan Peters

– All Smiles Aboard train conductor, Brian Davis

– Chick-fil-A Cow mascot (accompanied by a friend)

– A Cleveland Clinic registered nurse

Each Simon Kidgits Club member will receive a make-your-own library book bag at the event. Additional activities will include a decorate-a-notebook craft and bookmark craft.

Kidgits Club members receive a variety of goodies, including Kidgits Club T-shirt, membership card, birthday gift, discounts and scheduled activities. For more information, or to sign up for the Kidgits Club, visit the mall’s Guest Services counter or www.simon.com/kidgits.

For information about other upcoming events, follow Great Lakes Mall on Twitter @GreatLakesMall or on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/GreatLakesMall.

As a side note, if I had to read a children’s book highlighting my profession in travel, it would probably be “Harold and the Purple Crayon.”  Happy reading!
