Honey Healing

Bee Pollen Bear from Ohio Honey Company

Bee Pollen Bear from Ohio Honey Company

As we enter into cold season (literally), now is a great time to talk about one of nature’s greatest medicines.  Honey.

Yes, it’s great for warming up your innards in a nice cup of mint tea, but it also acts as a natural moisturizer, digestive healer, elixir, and a complementary remedy for coughs and colds.  Lucky for Lake County, we have the Ohio Honey Company right in our own backyard!

According to the Ohio Honey Company, honey is a humectant.  That means it attracts and retains water – perfect for moisturizers, conditioners, shampoos, creams, and more.  Honey is also an anti-irritant, so it’s great for sensitive skin and baby care products.

You can add a 1/4 cup of Ohio Honey Company’s honey to bath water for a silky bath, stir in 1 tsp into 4 qts of warm water for hair shine, or make a moisture mask with equal parts honey, water, and oatmeal.

If you have a cold or sore throat, here are some recommendations -

Gargle with two tablespoons of Ohio Honey, four tablespoons of cider vinegar, and a pinch of salt.  OR Make a hot water drink with lemon juice and honey.  Add a little eucalyptus oil or root ginger to ease congestion, or to enhance sleep, try adding a drop of whiskey.

Personally, I take honey to take care of my seasonal allergies (a spoonful a day keeps the sniffles away!) and use the propolis tincture for when I feel under the weather or have dry skin or cuts.

Located in Willoughby, OH,  The Ohio Honey Company sells small to large bottles of honey, bee pollen, and propolis tincture.  Check out their website at http://www.ohiohoney.com and make sure to buy your honey local for the most healing power!

Hey, if Cleopatra used it, it must be good!
