Just in time for theater patrons to purchase holiday gift certificates, Rabbit Run Theater in Madison announces its 2013 season!
Rabbit Run “Goes to the Movies” as all of the productions for the summer are plays that have been block-buster movies over the years.
The season opens May 31 with the production of Steel Magnolias. Written by Robert Harling, Steel Magnolias appeared off-Broadway in 1987 and was turned into a feature film in 1989. Situated in Truvy’s Beauty Shop deep in the South in Louisiana, Steel Magnolias tells the touching story of six women, each with their own challenges, who handle life’s rougher edges with wisdom, strength, friendship and laughter.
How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying opens June 21 as Rabbit Run’s Young Adult Production. Some of Northeast Ohio’s most talented actors, aged 21 and younger, will perform in this satirical comedy/musical. Winner of seven Tony Awards, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert, is based on Shepherd Mead’s 1952 book of the same name.
The world’s favorite musical, The Sound of Music, comes to Rabbit Run in July. This award winning musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, opens July 12 and runs through Aug. 3.
The summer ends with the production of the comedy/thriller The 39 Steps. Originally a 1935 Alfred Hitchcock suspense film, The 39 Steps was adapted to be performed by only four actors who play multiple roles requiring many quick changes and even several roles played at once taking the show from a suspense thriller to a fast-paced comedic and clever production full of allusions to other Hitchcock films.
Season tickets and gift certificates for season tickets are available by calling 440-428-5913. Auditions for the four summer productions will be in March, 2013, with specific audition dates to be announced. For more information visit www.rabbitrunonline.org.
