Sunday Lunch at Lakeshore Eatery

Lakeshore Eatery

Sunday lunch with the family – a long standing tradition for many.   For some, like me, only a fond memory.  My family is scattered now but I can still enjoy a great home-style meal at Lakeshore Eatery in Mentor.  Lakeshore is a casual, family friendly place.   It looks unassuming but the cooking is top quality.

On our most recent Sunday lunch visit, prime rib and eggs were the brunch special.  While tempting, my husband, Dana, and I had something else in mind.  I chose the Slow Roasted Pot Roast with mashed potatoes.  My beef arrived falling-apart tender and perfectly seasoned with black pepper.  Creamy mashed potatoes with pot roast gravy was served on the side along with sliced carrots.  Dana ordered the Paprika Shnitzel, a breaded, pan-fried pork cutlet covered with a spicy sour cream paprika gravy.   I begged a taste and wished I could have two entrees!  The cutlet was crispy and the gravy spicy but not overwhelming.  It was served with a side of homemade spaetzel, soft little buttered dough pillows, a perfect side for the spicy schnitzel.  Lakeshore offers several versions of schnitzel, using veal, chicken and pork.  Both entrees were served with a very fresh garden salad and our choice of dressing.

The food is always freshly made, the service friendly.   It is one of the only restaurants where I will order pork chops.  At Lakeshore, they are always tender and perfectly seasoned.   My son loves their juicy hamburgers and fresh cut french fries.  Truth be told, I do too!  I also like their BLT and club sandwiches, served with fresh lettuce and ripe tomatoes.  My husband often orders the crispy Lake Erie perch sandwich.  To satisfy your sweet tooth, there is a wide selection of homemade pies.  My favorite is coconut cream and my husband loves blueberry.

Breakfast entrees include eggs made any way you like, fluffy pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, toast and hash browns with my favorite crispy edges.  The whole grain French toast is a special treat and the Eatery Omelet overflows with mushrooms, onions, bacon and cheese.

Lakeshore Eatery is located at 7272 Lakeshore Boulevard in Mentor.   It is on Lake County’s section of the Lake Erie Coastal Trail.  Using alternative transportation?  A Laketran bus stops right outside their door.  You can bicycle there on the bike lane that runs along Lakeshore Boulevard, Route 283.  If you are a cross-county bicyclist, Lakeshore Eatery is on the Adventure Cycling Association’s Northern Tier route.  Cyclists, this would be a great rest and fuel stop before or after braving the challenge of biking through Cleveland!

Lakeshore Eatery is open 7 days a week from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.  Visit www.LakeshoreEatery.com to view the full menu or call 440-946-3333 for more information.
