This coming Saturday is your LAST chance to visit the Grand River Valley Wineries for their annual Ice Wine Festival. The Festival goes from 12-5pm and you have the chance to sample Ice Wine at 5 different wineries as well as enjoy a complimentary appetizer, view ice carving, sled dogs, and cooking demonstrations! Don’t forget your canned food items as well – they save you $1 off admission. Participating wineries include Debonne Vineyards, Ferrante Winery and Ristorante, Grand River Cellars Winery and Restaurant, Laurello Vineyards, and St. Joseph Vineyards.

Ice Wine Harvest

Ice wine grapes are normally harvested in late December or January, in fact some ice wine grapes in the region were picked earlier in January where there was a small window of colder temperatures. Despite the colder temperature, Ferrante’s Ice Wine grapes weren’t entirely frozen. The fruit must be properly frozen with temperatures ranging between 12 and 17 degrees to ensure higher sugar content and quality.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Grand River Valley’s annual Ice Wine Festival. This year the festival will be March 3, 10, & 17 from noon to 5 p.m. at participating wineries in the Grand River Valley.
